Shakshuka originates from North Africa but is often linked to the Middle East due to its popularity within the area. There are many variations, but the crucial ingredients are tomatoes, onions, and eggs. This dish is all about simplicity. An easy way to make shakshuka is by adding oil and onions to a pan. Once the onions are softened, add chopped tomatoes and reduce it until you get a thick sauce. At this point, crack the eggs on top of the sauce and place a lid on top of the pan until the eggs are ready. Herbs and spices can be added at the beginning of the process for extra flavor, while the addition of sugar can take the edge off the tang of the tomatoes.
