Butterfly Garden Bento

I have not posted any bento pics latly since the move I have been still going out of my mind with everything I did however snap a quick pick of my bento for my kiddo brown bag lunch for a field trip.

My kiddo had an end of the year field trip to the Butterfly Garden. So you know I had to wip out the cutters for some butterflies in her bento. I had to use a container that she could dispose of since it was a field trip, so her fancy bento boxes were not used.

I cut lightly steamed carrots with the cutter into cute little butterflies.  Made pinwheel sandwiches by using a rolling pin to flatten bread adding meat and cheese then tightly rolling it all up, sealing the edge with a little water and then slicing it up shows its swirly design.  I added some baby cucumbers and a cherry tomato.

When she got home she said “Mom I loved the butterfies in my lunch and the little sandwich rolls were SOOOO yummy”!  Too bad I cannot roll broccoli into cute spirals, funny how the cuter the food the more she enjoys eating it…

That is why I do this, I love the idea of food being fun.  Why not be fun and she will only allow cute food for a while before she is too cool for it like her older sister.

( insert sigh)

If you have never been to a Butterfly Garden I highly suggest it. It is so amazing to see all the different types of butterflies. The one near us is the Butterfly  Pavillion In Wesminster, Co.

.

It is a definate day trip up there for us but so worth it.  If you have boys who are not into butterflies they have a nice collection of more creepy crawly type of bugs and if they can handle it they can even hold Rosie the trantulla.. EWWW the thought of her makes me weak and want to pass out in fear.  But sure enough my kiddo  thinks she is so much cooler than Momma cause of course she can hold the big spider and I would never in a million years! Also has a small petting pool for kids to get up close and feely with something and get that out their system cause you should never touch the butterflies. Though If you wear the right clothing colors (Yellow or Red) it is said you have a chance of one landing on you! Can I say cool photos, you will definatly get some cool shots there of many different species and if you get one on you – next years photo card!  LOL!  So if in the Denver area you must go check it out. Plus it is near some nice shops and resturants. Momma needs something to calm the nerves after the whole Rosie incident!!
